Advertising

Advertising has been around for ages. Ever since we were young I'm sure we were all exposed to media advertising such as in TVs and radios. However, since Astro came about, I must say that I myself have not been up to date with the TV advertising except for Astro advertising their own programs! Well, advertising seeks to create awareness for a particular product. More awareness hopefully will translate to more sales, which in turn will result in more $$$. Simple right? The trouble is, with so many companies conducting marketing blitz and advertising campaigns, how does one differentiate oneself from the rest? That, my friend, is the million dollar question.

Nowadays, there are all sort of advertising, from Petronas' creative ads on National Day to Studio Grafix's company's tagline of "Brand-lah pisang anda!". Previously, one company came out with postcards adverts as well, which I thought was bloody kewl, but unfortunately, I don't see much of them around anymore. Adding to that, with new media around, such as the internet, banner adverts on sites have also become popular though I seriously doubt their effectiveness.

Anyway, here's some creative bus and paper bag ads that were sent to me via email. Hopefully we will get to see some of it in Malaysia. I'm sure it will create a buzz and a lasting impact as well.

What Now?

Today, I went to vote for the very first time! Well, technically speaking, it was yesterday. My papa woke me up at ard 12+ and asked me to have my lunch and go vote. Thought that he hasn't voted yet and would be cool if we went together. So I went down, had my lunch, clean myself up and after that asked my papa to go together to vote! His reply was, "I voted d!" Ha! There goes my plan of bonding with dearest papa!

So I went to the polling station alone, was expecting to queue up but when I went there, there was hardly any people around. Registered and was given the number "2008", hmmm, good number, went to the voting room and went in straight to cast my vote. Put "X" next to the Rocket sign for state, put another "X" next to the Rocket sign for parliament also. Thought to myself, damn, sure is quiet around here, not what I was expecting at all. So after voting I went back home.

It was only about 8+ did the "fever" really picked up. SMS flying around, DAP has taken over Penang. At that time, I was having dinner, and after that while I was buying my ciggies, a friend called up and he told me that the opposition has won for Penang, Koh Tsu Khoon suffered a heart attack and is in the hospital, Ong Ka Ting also lost etc. Man, this rumors! Shows how easily rumors can start and spread! Rest assured my fellow Penangnites, Dr Koh is fine, health-wise that is. Though Gerakan was handed a beating! Never in my wildest dreams, and it does get pretty wild sometimes, did I imagine that DAP-PKR and PAS would enjoy so much success! I would have thought that Dr Koh would have won easily, and same goes for "entao" Nan! Kudos to the general public, we have decided and I guess enough is enough, we want a change!

So I was at home and frantically pressing the refresh button on my malaysiakini site, and not only did Barisan Alternatif won in Penang, they did so in Kelantan, Kedah, Selangor and Perak too! That's an unprecedented history! When I went through malaysiakini these are some of the feeds that brought a smile to my face ...

According to a statement made by Anwar Ibrahim, “The people have voted decisively for a new era where the government must be truly inclusive and recognises that all Malaysians, regardless of race, culture or race are a nation of one. The people have expressed in no uncertain terms that they want accountability, transparency, and the rule of law.”

Yes indeed.

The winds of change has swept through Malaysia, the people have spoken, so what happens now? Now, I believe, comes the hard part, you as the peoples' choice have to uphold the promises and values that you have promised to us. For Barisan Alternatif, a common ground has to be reached quickly, we have bought the ideas that you sold to us, now is the time to deliver! Make us proud!

P/S: Raja Petra, I did not have the chance to see you live at Raja Uda, but I had goose bumps listening to you on youtube! You have shown us insights on the corruption that was happening in Malaysia and I hope that you will continue your crusade for a better Malaysia and expose the short comings of all Malaysians. Looking forward to welcoming you back to Penang the next time round for your ceramahs! not just on your grandfather's road but all roads in Penang! Hahahaha!

Great Answers

It's funny remembering those schooling and uni times, I must say that I have had many pleasant memories during that period of my life. Some of my "platinum" grade class of friends are from these era. As time passes by, it made me realise how lucky and important it is to have them. It's true, as I get older, my circle of friends tend to shrink more, but those that still remain have a tighter bond than before.

As I look back to my schooling days, one thing that pops up on my mind is the dreaded examination period! The burning of the midnight oil! I remembered my chemical exam during form 5, I was the second person to walked out the hall! After 30 minutes I think! Didn't study for it at all and decided that I'm not able to catch up 2 years of material in one to two nights. My uni exams are better, a word of advise to students that are studying, do take the time to go through past years examination papers! It worked wonders for me!

I've included some typical questions below and some answers. Technically speaking, the answers are not wrong and I think these sort of talents are really needed in the working world where "thinking out of the box" is a very much sought after trait. Judge for yourself ...

Aqua Pics

What a productive weekend it has been for me. Went apartment hunting around the Ratu Mutiara area, saw one apartment that was very nice to me and my gf and at a reasonable price too! Needless to say, we're both very excited at the prospect of owning our own home. So now, we have to look for other apartments first and compare. That's if no one else buys up the apartment.

Well, another exciting thing was I bought my first digital camera! Wooot! the Nikon D40 slr camera no less! My friend was selling it second hand and I think I got it at a very reasonable price. Well, now is the hard part of mastering the different aspects of photography. I know fuck all about photography, so it's gonna be one hard and long process i think. Just came back from our first photo shooting session at Kek Lok Si. More about this later, will post up some pics as well.

Needless to say, I've been testing out the camera and what better way than to take pics of my aquarium! Here's some the pics that I took ...

It's a 4 feet tank ... think it's less than a year old but some of the plants are from my previous 2 feet tank.

Under different ... ahem ... aperture settings! Or was it ISO?

One of the inhabitants, the mini algae eater.

My favorite fish! Sucker fish!

Another inhabitant of the aquarium, bought a pair of this spotted loach but one of them died.

Check out the green slimy algae on the right. It's fuckin destroying my aquarium.

My favourite driftwood ... looks like an elephant from a certain angle!

This is one hardy fish ... from the chiclid family I reckon.

Lush greeneries!

Another one of my favorites but I forgot it's name.

A closer shot.

The upside down fish! This fler will swim upside down to the surface of the water and sapu all the food when it's feeding time!

RUN!!! The aliens have landed!!!
